The skin is an organ. In fact, it is the largest in the human body. Some growths in the skin are benign, such as moles that are rarely a threat to life. Moles can generally be removed and do not grow back. They do not spread or invade to other parts of the body. But there are also malignant growths, such as melanoma, and basal and squamous cell cancer, that may be a threat to life.
Skin Diagram
This diagram shows the different layers of human skin. The top layer of the human is called the epidermis. The next layer is the dermis and the third layer is the hypodermic. A hair follicle starts in the layer, hypodermis. There are blood vessels running through the dermis and hypodermis layers. The sweat gland is in the dermis and runs throughout the epidermis to the surface of the skin. The hypodermis is filled of fat and connective tissue.
